Today's order: Grande Non-Fat Tazo Chai Latte
At some point in time or another, I think everyone has fallen victim to the rampant consumerism that plagues our society. But today, Black Friday in the United States, the biggest shopping day that country sees, one person became a real victim. The greed of ridiculous mob of consumers whipped into a frenzy by the corporate machines that promote such ludicrous behaviour by opening up earlier and earlier on the day after Thanksgiving and creating an air of last-minute desperation among their customers, led to the death of a Wal-Mart employee in suburban New York.
A 34-year-old man was trampled to death when the customers outside lost their minds and ripped the door from the hinges and forced their way inside.
At a Wal-Mart.
People, really. What did you need that badly at Wal-Mart?
I'm so ashamed to be a member of the human race right now.
Happy Thanksgiving. Yeah, right.

We used to have those 'door buster' sales here in Oz until they were banned because too many people were getting injured.
No one died though.
And what about the two guys that SHOT EACH OTHER in Toys r us?

OMG that is disgusting!! What is wrong with people?? Are the deals really all that great to go crazy like that??? I did most of my shopping online this year....so many free shipping codes and great deals. It has made me less stressed for sure!
I saw that in the news, and was as revolted as you are. I don't get it.
There was also the story of the pregnant woman who had to be hospitalized after being trampled.
Sickening.

I felt the same way about this story. What the heck is wrong with us as a society when saving money is more important. It really makes me want to throw up!
I couldn't believe it when I saw that either! I was like, WTF? I had to do a double-take at the TV screen. There's no deal worth a human life... I can't even believe I'm typing that, it's nuts!

It is a shame people feel that buying things are more important than the welfare of other people. What is coming of our society? You would think that the crashing economy would force us to rethink our consumerism but apparently for some it is not going to change.
Crazy. Insane. People, get a life. I think we've all forgotten that the holidays are all about sitting at home and getting silly buzzed and stuffing your gut with friends and family. That is ALL that matters. Gluttony > consumerism in my book.

I remember reading about this and it's shockingly sad. What is wrong with people that they would trample people to death to save a few dollars? I know the economy is shaky and all but that's ridiculous!
